Project Showreel 2012

Yup, I said it. I'm going to make my showreel a project...meaning, I am going to make pieces of work specifically for my showreel. I learnt a lot of new techniques after leaving university and to show them off in a polished form, I will make a new project using these techniques. The showreel is going to showoff my knowledge of:

Character animation
Hard surface 3d Modelling
Camera tracking
Match moving
Compositing

I am currently working on the character animation and whilst the progress of that uploads, I will post up some images from other aspects of the showreel so far.

Artists Statement

I am a self-taught CG animator constantly seeking new challenges to tackle, new practices to master and new images to create. My favourite phrase is B.B.T.O.S. This phrase means Bring Back The Old School and this is a theme that I try to implement into my creations. There is no future without a past and this also applies to design and animation.

Everything nowadays is trying to be futuristic or modern and for most to achieve this they abandon the designs and thoughts created by the past and endeavour on a creative process to create something very different. I do not think this approach is wrong but I believe that the illusion that the result was purely a result of the creative journey is a lie. In everything modern or futuristic there is a glimpse of the past and I believe that we should make these glimpses windows, and one day we can make them half the creation without denial of the origin.
